• Explorers - are the type who recognize the need for this forum and training and are open to exploring new methods and ideas through formal training and informal discussion.
  
  

• Vacationers - are those that may be ambivalent about the class initially and would volunteer to do anything that gets them out of work, but they may turn into explorers when they discover the benefits from the interaction and learning environment.

• Hostages - are those who may work for an organization and don't wish to be in the program, they did not volunteer and they are clearly aggravated about being away from their day-to-day routines.  They are unlikely to turn into explorers, but so long as you employ them they should participate eventually in these programs. 

Special Note:  Hostages should be the last, not the first to be sent to a program.  It is highly likely they will be 2nd or 3rd generation hostages before they're slated to come to a program.  In short, they have left employment and you may have hired a new hostage.  Hostages should not be considered exempt from the program; quite the contrary, they should be enrolled, but they should be enrolled last and then the facilitator may work with them to improve, or in some cases unfortunately help them find their way to other employment.  We often spend time and money trying to change people.  We must realize the only thing we can do is create opportunities for change.  We don't change people, we create opportunities for people to change themselves.

• Terrorists - are going to try to dismantle the learning environment and the facilitator will recommend them for immediate removal, so that someone else that would benefit will be allowed to take their place.  These are candidates for removal from employment because their assets are clearly outweighed by their liabilities to the organization.

• Star Performers - You must invest constantly to reward Star Performers for their outstanding performance, contributions and more importantly to keep them employed in your organization.
